Crowns
Crowns are tooth shaped caps that are custom made to fit over existing teeth, to alter the shape and colour and or to strengthen the tooth. They are usually made out of tooth coloured porcelain.
They are placed over teeth which are structurally compromised, they may have large existing fillings or have a root canal restoration. Or for cosmetic reasons eg; closing gaps.

The existing tooth is shaped and an impression taken. Photographs, Xrays and colour shades may also be taken at this time. The impression is then sent to a porcelain laboratory for processing.
A temporary crown will be fitted for usually 0ne to three weeks. When the crown is back from the lab a fitting appointment will be made. Your dentist will show you the crown before they permanently place it on your tooth. You will both check the colour and shape and they will check the fit. If all is well your crown will be bonded onto your tooth.
There are quite a few different types of porcelain crown, and prices may vary.We often suggest a tooth whitening procedure if several crowns are being made, for a good cosmetic result.
