Partial dentures
Are removable replacements for one or more missing teeth. They, usually have acrylic teeth and can be made with an acrylic or chrome framework.A partial denture may be held in place by clasps or clips that fit around your natural teeth.

Full dentures
Replace all of the natural teeth. In situations where a denture is made to replace teeth that have recently been extracted, an “immediate denture”, will be made. There will after a period of time (usually 3-6months) where the gums will shrink.( We suggest the use of a denture adhesive, until we consider most of the shrinkage has occurred .)

Relines
An immediate denture usually requires a reline after 3-6 months. Unfortunately there is no way of predicting the amount or speed of shrinkage. If it seems obvious that the gums will shrink further, but the dentures are too loose to wear, even with the help of an adhesive, a temporary reline may be suggested. The cost of these relines in usually not included in the original denture cost.

Replacement  dentures
Dentures usually require replacing every 5-10 years as the teeth may become worn, and this causes the bite to alter. This may prevent proper chewing and cause jaw problems. It may also lead to altered facial appearance. Replacement dentures, generally fit well, as gums are harder but they may require minor adjustments after fitting

Where do I go to get dentures made?
Your dental Surgeon!

You can go directly to a dental technician, to get dentures made. This may appear to be a cheaper option BUT we recommend that you get a dental surgeon to make your teeth. Your dentist is trained to thoroughly assess you teeth and mouth, making sure everything is healthy, and will check this each time you visit.

What is the process?
The making of your dentures may take several appointments, and you will be consulted with regard to the “look, colour and shape” of your teeth. Your bite will be assessed to make sure your teeth are correctly functional and look as natural as possible. It may take several weeks to get used to your denture.

Care of your dentures
Dentures should be brushed twice daily, as your own teeth are. Plaque can build up and irritate the gums If they become stained, soaking in a denture cleaner will help. If they get a hard build up on them they will need professional cleaning. If you are getting “sore spots’ or ulcers from your denture, it is important that you rest your gums, by taking your denture out for a few hours or over night. Rinse your gums in some warm salty water to aid healing. If the soreness persists, call us for an adjustment. If you have an acrylic denture, remove and place in a glass of water.

Dentures do not “ last for life” Regular dental health care is important when you have a partial plate or full dentures.
