Regular Scale and Polishes
Taking care of your teeth and gums is extremely important. Gum disease is a very common, yet often undiagnosed problem.
PLAQUE causes gum disease. It is a colourless film of bacteria that coats the teeth. If it is not removed it reacts with the sugars and starches that we eat and drink, to form acids, which can attack teeth. It also hardens to form calculus around the necks of the teeth.
This can lead to bad breath, bleeding gums, discoloured teeth, inflammation and swelling, pain, infection, and gum, bone and tooth loss.
There are direct links between gum disease and more serious health issues.
In order to keep your gums healthy we recommend a yearly scale and polish with your dental surgeon or your hygienist. In some case we advise 3 or 6 monthly visits.
At the Grey St. Dental Surgery we will scale your teeth with a Soniflex Scaler, that will loosen the hard plaque deposits around your teeth and gums. Your teeth will then be polished with our high speed brushes which help remove the loosened plaque and clean the teeth.
Your teeth may be sensitive post treatment, We have a selection of recommended products, which can reduce sensitivity.
Brushing with a fluoride paste at least twice a day, and daily flossing are recommendedas a basic dental health maintenance plan. An electric toothbrush can also be very effective to help prevent plaque build up.
If you have extensive staining that has not been removed with the scale and polish we can talk to you about our tooth whitening procedures, including our ZOOM in chair bleaching.
