Digital Xrays

We now have a fully digitalized Xray system. The Xray is taken as usual but the image is stored in the computer. Your dentist can then view it on screen in the surgery, they can Zoom in and out on the image, we can also email the xrays to specialists or Acc. If you would like a copy of your Xrays we can email them to you.

BiteWing Xrays

Bitewing Xrays, which are usually taken as a pair. BWXrays help to show us if a tooth has been leaking underneath old fillings, or if there has been structural damage due to trauma or an accident. Your dentist will usually suggest taking BW Xrays at least every two years, and in some cases yearly.

PeriApical Xrays

These are usually taken if your dentist needs to check if there has been root canal or root damage to a single tooth. They provide a more detailed look at the tooth from the crown to the root tip.

Panoramic Xrays

We usually recommend Panoramic Xrays are taken at least every 5 years on all adult patients. They provide a scanned image of your whole mouth. As well as showing us your teeth we  can pick up any underlying problems with the teeth and jaw, including cysts, cancers and abnormal tissue growth.

If you are receiving extensive dental work, implants, crown and bridge work, dentures or extractions we will probably require a panoramic Xray.

While Xrays are an integral part of treatment diagnosis, they do not always show everything, and clinical examinations and tests are required as well.

Please advise us if you are pregnant, attempting to become pregnant, or if there is any other reason you should not have an Xray.
